Julie was all about fun, flirting, and dating: “First Kisses,” “How to Make Him Pant at First Glance,” and so forth. Grace’s stories were mainly geared toward women already in relationships: “Making It Last,” “Couples Therapy for Newbies,” “Keeping the Romance Alive.” Riley was sex. All sex, all the time. As for Emma? Emma was the resident heartbreak expert—the one who helped women how to cut him loose, or how to survive the aftermath when you were the one set loose.
The Trouble With Love
Series Title: Sex, Love & Stiletto
Author: Lauren Layne
Publisher: Loveswept
Intended Audience: Adult
Genre: Romance
As I’ve mentioned in my individual reviews of the books in this series, this was a re-read for me, so I thought I would do something a little extra and talk about the series as a whole in addition to each individual book. Because while I thoroughly enjoyed each book on its own, it’s really the shared universe of the Stiletto girls and later the Oxford boys that made me finally do a re-read of the series. And I’m so glad I did. Like the first time I read the Stiletto series, I fell in love with Lauren Layne’s writing and the characters she created (except this time, it was all over again rather than for the first time). I loved these books so much so that I’m batch writing these reviews after having re-read the whole series because I simply couldn’t wait to read the next one until after I wrote the previous one’s review.
I focus on each of the romantic relationships in my individual reviews of each book, so I won’t do that again. But something I didn’t fully express is how much I love the friendships between the characters. Julie, Grace, Riley, and Emma go down on my list of the best book best friends I’ve ever read. I love how much these girls support each other but also don’t let each other get away with anything. When they’re being ridiculous in terms of their relationships, they let each other know. I also love their relationship with Camille, their Editor in Chief. Camille isn’t just their boss but a mentor. She cares about them deeply, almost as if they’re her daughters, and counsels them through some messy periods in their lives. Also, throughout the series, Mitchell, Jake, Sam, and Alex form a friendship despite initially only having their significant others in common that always made me smile.
Overall, these books are a delight. If you’re looking for something easy to read that’s a little bit steamy and a lot of fun, look no further than Sex, Love & Stiletto. Each book gets better than the last, and while they can be read as a standalone and in any order, I honestly recommend reading all of them and in the order that they’re written.
And when you’re done, of course, there’s always the Oxford series.
